Two years after completing a degree in business from Boston University, Neal Hyams founded DV Medical Supply. His experience in sales contributed to the business’ growth. DV Medical Supply has become a distributor for multiple pharmaceutical and medical supply companies, such as Hospira.
Hospira came up with its first product, a fully disposable I.V. administration set, during the mid-1940s. Since then, the company has developed a variety of drugs and implementation services, as well as clinical software. In the 2000s, Hospira introduced its MedNet drug library safety software.
The Hospira MedNet safety software assists medical practitioners by reducing the risk of medication errors. The software’s design features a drug library, which allows nurses to access IV administration practices. The software also includes clinically acceptable dosing limits for reference, to protect nurses and other practitioners from committing infusion errors.
In integration sites, the Hospira MedNet safety software was able to decrease heparin errors at a rate of 32 percent and saved over six million dollars from prevented clinical errors.
